Frequently asked questions

Eyelash extensions have continued to be the hottest growing necessity in the beauty industry, and many consumers out there are dying to get them! We understand that adding a new beauty service to your routine requires research, so that you can know all the ins and outs of this latest fashion must-have. To help with your research, Top Beauty Shop has answered the most frequently asked questions about getting semi-permanent eyelash extensions.

Eyelash Extensions are a popular new service and product that lengthens and thickens your own natural eyelashes. The extensions may made from several materials including silk and mink, synthetic or human hair.

Individual lash application technique has been around for many years. It is basically a technique where we attach 1 lash extensions onto 1 of your natural lash. If you have a lot of natural lashes already and do not desire too much volume, this set would be perfect for you as they will only lengthen your natural lashes. However, if you do not have much natural lashes and want more volume, Russian Volume set is your answer! Russian Volume is a term wildly used in the past 2 years. Differ than individual lash, we attach 3 (or more) extensions onto 1 of your natural lash. Do not worry, this technique would not damage your natural lashes because the lash extensions that are used for Volume set are generally thinner (in diameter) than what is used for Individual set. Your natural lashes can still support the weight of these lash bundles. This lash bundles are generally called “lash fans”, and the way we make these fans is that we make the 3 lashes looks like the letter “W” with our tweezers and then we attach them on your natural lash with high quality adhesive. This technique needs to be applied by skilled professional only. We are proud to say that all our lash fans are carefully handmade by our technicians – we do not use any clusters or premade fans that will potentially damage client’s natural lashes.

Eyelash Extensions will last the length of the natural growth cycle of your eyelashes. This cycle varies on everyone, but generally refill should only be required every 2 weeks. Top Beauty Shop has a strict policy of refills pricing. All refill appointments that are booked more than 2 weeks apart has to be charged as a full set. It is best to come in for touch ups every 2weeks.

Following the life circle of lashes, between 2-5 lashes fall out every day, depending on one’s health, which means on average in 21 days, you would have lost up to 60 lashes before new lashes are produced, and some lashes grow longer than others, causing uneven extensions. This is why we need infills every 2-4 weeks to maintain the gorgeous look. Scientist have proved, people who tend to be more active, naturally have healthier lashes.

The biggest myth is that lash extensions ruin your own lashes. They do not. If applied correctly and properly, they are safe and do not ruin the health of your natural lashes. Be sure not to rub your eyes or tug or pull on the extensions because this can cause lash loss and even damage to your natural lashes.

Please do not try to remove lash extensions yourself, you will end up pulling out your natural lashes if you pick or pull on the extensions. We apply a special gel onto the extensions, that is made to weaken the bond of the glue, this way no damage is done to your natural lashes.

It is advisable not to wear any mascara while having Extensions on. Mascara will clump the extensions and it is generally hard to get them off without pulling or ruining those beautifully handmade fans. As for any other make up products (eg Eyeliner, Eye Shadow), it is best to choose NON-waterproof products as this means you would not need oil make up remover to remove them. Oil deteriorates the bond of the glue very quickly.

Not all make up removers are created equal. For Eyelash Extensions purposes, please use non-oil based make up remover to help lengthen the retention period.

1. Avoid water and steam for the first 24 hours.

2. Do not use mascara.

3. Sleep on your back.

4. Do not use oil based cleansing products.

5. Brush them morning and night.

6. Refill every 2 weeks.

The lash extensions will stay on anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks. The bond life depends on many things such as: Proper aftercare, proper preparation, and proper application. Due to the lashes growth cycle, refills must be applied to fill in the gaps from the natural lashes that have fallen out.

Yes, there are some cases reported where client’s eyes can become itchy and swollen after getting the treatment. Allergic reactions are extremely rare however, and subside normally as soon as the extensions are removed. If you have extreme latex/band-aid allergies, you may be at higher risk of a reaction. If you have had an allergic reaction to any eyelash extensions before (swollen, puffy eyelids and under eye area) we do not recommend getting lash extensions again – as it is highly likely you will be allergic again. If you do have an allergic reaction, you must seek medical attention and we will need to remove the extensions as soon as possible.

Generally, you will have to wait 24 hours after your lash appointment before getting the extensions wet. After this time period, it is safe to swim, shower, and exercise. We do not recommend sauna or steam treatment while having extensions on, as the heat and humidity can weaken the bonding agent over time.

For your eyes only

Once you get the lashes, you won’t want anything different. When the lashes are removed, you will miss the beautiful accent they gave your eyes. Fortunately, you won’t have to do without for long; a quick booking of an appointment can have you lashed up in no time.
